NEXT VILS MEETING, AND OTHER UPCOMING EVENTS

On Weds 29 Nov we return to the CAR-T unit at Deeley for the first time since 2017 for a talk and tour on the latest from Victoria's own CAR-T cell therapy production unit. Get your tickets here while they last!

We run regularly, upon sufficient requests, our introductory seminar on Basics of Intellectual Property, held at the BioInnovation Hub. Previous seminars were Nov 2022 and March 2023.
This is a short, ~2-hour seminar - with tons of Q&A and interaction - that uses as its basis in large part the IP Basics and IP Advanced I modules of the European Patent Office's IP Teaching Kit and will also take some flavour and inspiration (but not content) from the introductory offerings of the Licensing Executives Society's teaching, and LES's recommended texts such as Rembrandts in the Attic (though we get only superficially into licensing - we've only got 2 hours after all!).
This seminar is aimed at people who have some academic training in life sciences and/or related technology, or biomedical engineering, but have not necessarily taken any such courses previously in intellectual property, IP forms, IP licensing, contract law, or IP law. Though, people with some grounding in IP and patent law should still find it useful/entertaining to participate. We expect many attendees are a biochemistry or biomed eng student or graduate who may not have yet taken much in IP-specific training, or any, or would like a refresher.

Other upcoming community events always include the excellent Health Tech Nights presented and founded by Cognito Health, which we encourage the VILS community to attend and support.

Best to work with gifted IP counsel to draft your provisional patent applications for the US. However, it's a very good idea to learn about the process of, for example, provisionals in order to understand better what IP counsel will do on your behalf. No better way to learn about this than for FREE, from the USPTO's experts.
Check their ongoing Events page, for specific sessions on provisionals as well as all kinds of free events and training.

In their Fundamentals For Startups speaking series, The University of Washington's excellent CoMotion is always worth checking for upcoming events.
All these sessions are helpfully archived afterwards to CoMotion's Startup Training Videos page for watching at your leisure!
